Easy Home Organization

If you know me or have ever been to my house, you may have noticed that I am obsessed with cupboards, closets, and HOOKS! I love me an organized home. It goes beyond aesthetics for me. Almost to a mantra: Messy house, messy mind. So get your mind right and straighten up. Your home.

The very first thing I had to fix when we moved into our 100 year old farmhouse? The closets! They were dusty, dark, unfinished plaster with rough wood shelves. Nothing got put away from our move until the closets got a much needed fresh coat of glossy white paint and smooth spruce boards replaced the old splintered boards (which will find their way into my home decor in a fresh new way).

Once the closets were under control I headed to the next problem area... the entryways. The solution for my family needs? Hooks. Simple, one step, hanger free organization for the kids (when hung within reach), and anyone else visiting our home, so they aren’t left wondering “what should I do with my coat?”. So began my obsession.

From there I found old knobs to mount on a board and hang in my kitchen for grocery bags, aprons, a broom, drying herbs. Vintage tap style knobs perfect for towels and robes in the bathrooms. I even have a set in my living room for those blankets that nobody folds up or puts away. Ever! 

The moral to this story is make it easy for everyone and you will spend less time picking up after everyone and more time enjoying the little things that make your house a home.
