Primary Bedroom Refresh - One Room Challenge - Week 1
I was inspired by an Instagram account that I follow and admire to sign up for the Spring 2022 ORC, and further inspired by the ORC website to post updates in blog form!
A little bit about our house, it is100 years old! Built from 1914-1917 to be exact, and is an Eaton’s house. Yes, like the catalog! Just like we used to order our swimsuits growing up. The fir used to build it came via train from B.C. It may sound glamorous but there was a 70’s DIY renovation that I am currently trying to undo, so much paneling in various tones of brown.
We moved in about 6 years ago but didn’t actually own it for the first couple years. Now that it is ours, we have been gradually making it our own. Mostly with necessary repairs as it wasn’t fully maintained for the last decade before we got here.
I decided, and my family agreed, that I will spend the next 8 weeks turning our primary bedroom into a space that we can actually rest and relax in. Since our house has two floors, with all the bedrooms being on the top floor, the primary bedroom is almost a secondary family room, where we all gather at the beginning and end of our day, and where we all land on the rough days to heal and recharge.
I have been planning this room in my mind since the moment we got here, it wont be extensive or elaborate by any means, but it will greatly impact our daily lives and the entire mood and flow of our home.
If you don’t know me yet and aren’t familiar with my “style”, I live for repurposing any and everything, using what we already have as much as possible, and turning trash into treasure whenever the inspiration strikes. I do plan on purchasing a light fixture (a ceiling fan to be more specific, no a/c!), and a desk chair (I have my heart set on a specific one). All in all, I hope to spend less than $1000 on this entire transformation that will include ceiling and wall repairs/painting, refinishing a desk that we already own, a built in tv area, and some diy art projects to add a little warmth.
I hope you will follow along here for weekly updates and if you want to see more behind the scenes find me on Instagram @poplarlane_home . Be sure to check out all the other participants at oneroomchallenge.com and follow @oneroomchallenge for all the inspiration!
